Smart Saver 256 v0.9 beta by Hartec / DEXTROSE 01.02.1998 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. About Smart Saver 256 2. Getting Started 3. Release Notes 4. Future Looks ====================================================================== 1. About Smart Saver 256 This program is intended to help you manageing your savegames in conjunction with the DX 256 hardware accessory produced by Bung Enterprises Ltd. 2. Getting Started This chapter is supposed to give you some good idea of getting into manageing your savedata easily. First of all, if you just have bought your DX 256 and it is still virgin I would advise you to upload a totaly empty savegame database, use the save collection that is included SS 256 archive or make up a new one. This should be done because there is random data stored in the DX256 and there may be some trouble if you continue useing this data. The background of this is, the SS 256 manager will only assume a savebank as empty if it is totaly full of zeros, otherwise it will declare the bank as occupied and the title as unkown. If you already have savedata stored onto the DX 256 which you would like to keep, I would advise you to just receive the data, select the savegames wich you would like to keep and then export them to ".SAV" files for you may want them to be imported in a totaly new savegame database described above. The interface should be selfexplaining, so I hope you will get everything managed ;) 3. Release Notes v0.9 beta : First initial release of this tool - send/receive of savedata from Doctor V64 - viewing savedata with hex/ascii viewer - autodetect savegames that have ID tag somewhere - ability to add comments that will be save in a INI file - in/export of "*.sav" files - INI file located at "C:\WINDOWS\smart.ini" that will let you configure a startup file thats automatically opened at startup along the stetup for you LPT port. 4. Future Looks First I didn'T want to release this beta, because I was hoping to get single savegame send/receive to work, but unfortunately because of the lack of time and furthermore me getting mad cause I didn't get it to work properly , I just disabled this function and released this version. Also, as this tool was planned for release two/three weeks ago and has not changed very much since then, I realy couldn't stand it anymore. (hehe especially when I saw that other tools were comming ;] ) So looking towards the next release there will be to following new features : - single savegame up/download without having to remove the n64 unit inbetween the DX256 and the doctor. - hex editor with direct switching between saves. - printing of savedata/bank-comments list. Thanks for beta testing must fly to CurtMac and LaC .... For greetings and other infos refer the Dextrose NFO ;)
